Beautiful sea-front apartment in world famous UK coastal town.
Perfectly positioned by Porthmeor Beach, St Ives, this apartment for 2 has spectacular views and is moments from the many facilities the town has to offer.
St Ives is a world-renowned destination for those seeking a relaxed coastal lifestyle alongside a lively social scene. Known for turquoise sea and golden sand, as well as the community of artists drawn to the extraordinary quality of the light, this compact town has several beaches, rugged coast paths, and a host of interesting galleries, museums, and shops. Tate St Ives is the most famous of these; there is also the Barbara Hepworth Museum and the Leach Pottery.
The South West Coast Path skirts the edge of the town, and there are a host of water sports on offer. There are many venues for live music, and various festivals throughout the year including the September Festival, Food Festival and Shanty Festival. There are events and classes running for all kinds of activities throughout much of the year. A wander through the cobbled streets and old fishermen’s cottages will soon get you to where you want to be!
Please note: St Ives is quite hilly, and many of the old streets are uneven, with steps to negotiate.
Middle-aged, self employed and hoping for some adventures before our joints wear out.
She is a lifelong hillwalker and bog-magnet, which goes hand in hand with being a landscape artist.
He is often working at home but always keeps an eye on the surf conditions.
We have lived in St Ives since 2001, after holidaying here and finding we didn’t want to go back to land-locked Warwickshire. We are child and pet free, and flexible about when we can go away.
There is plenty of space to sit here (parasol available – you might need the shade!), and the summer sun stays until late afternoon. Then it’s time to move to the sea side for a glass of wine on the balcony to watch the colour changes as the sun sets into the sea. Be prepared for envious comments from the people who gather for the sunset!
The beach is yards away - we get the occasional waft of barbecues, and delighted squeals of children jumping in the waves at the height of the season, but we are just tucked away enough to avoid all the noise and bustle. Looking out onto the grass of the Island, and the sea beyond, means that we mostly have dog-walkers and picnic groups, coast path walkers, or people just out for a stroll.
It is surprisingly quiet here, even at the height of summer with the huge numbers of tourists in the town. If you can visit outside the school holidays, the Cornish climate is particularly lovely through May, June, early July, September, and often through October too. April can be glorious too.
The Cornish winters are generally mild, if a little wet and windy at times - a frost is a rare thing. The stormy days are exciting to watch from the lounge window (if the salt spray hasn’t covered it!).
Our apartment is designed for a life on the beach or out on the coast path; tiled floors throughout mean that muddy boots and dripping wetsuits are not a problem. Having lived here for nearly 20 years, we have made the space work for us and our outdoor activities.
After the complete renovation in 2021, the apartment is fit for modern life; warm and well insulated, plenty of charging points and efficient appliances. Practicalities aside, the apartment has touches of luxury too.
The biggest (double ended) bath tub we could fit in, a comfortable dining booth that’s easy to stay in for an entire evening, a home cinema experience so good (ceiling mounted projector and surround sound) that shamefully we haven’t been to St Ives' cinema for a long time, a retro option for playing music (a record player and vinyl collection, though we can’t guarantee it’s to your taste!), and a Star Wars themed toilet!
All we ask is that you give our tame house plants a little water, and the (also quite tame) wild birds in the courtyard a little food, and leave the place as you found it.
